Data Loads Monitoring Tool

Data loads are incorporated inside each tenant. Today we do not have a scheduler tool where we can take glimpse and status of all data loads in one page like Control M schduling tool. I have attached a sample picture of a tool. If we want to check the status then we will need to go inside of each service and then check and for ETL service we will have to go into each and every tenant. That is quite high time consuming. If we want to hold multiple jobs before maintenance activity or for unplanned outages it will take a lot of effort to pause all the loads. We need Scheduling tool feature to monitor, pause and check status of all the data loads in one place.

OPTIONS TO CONSIDER:

1) Automatic rerun:

  • A re-run of the data load by default

  • A load should goes into retry mode before final failure, let’s say after 3 re-run by the system itself.

  • After all re-try exhausts, a notification is set about final failure.

  • We do re-run after preliminary investigation, checking error, whether it is at IGW, agent, network, Database, DIS Gateway, etc. After this we do a rerun.A rerun by the system will save efforts for the scenarios where a rerun succeeds the load.

  • To be investigated:should it be an immediate run or after a gap of time?

2) A data load monitoring tool:

  • A Scheduler tool to monitor the status of all loads at one place. That navigates through each and every component of the ETL load without a need to login to the respective tenant

  • PLATFORM-I-241, an AHA has been raised for such feature
